Student Travel Program

The SOAR Undergraduate Program is offering travel funding for students to attend conferences and workshops within their field of study to provide opportunities for professional development. The SOAR Program’s ultimate goal is to prepare students for their future professions.

Who can apply?

Students must meet the follow criteria:

  • Must be an active SOAR Cohort member for at least one semester prior to applying
  • Must be in good standing for at least three months
  • Must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA
  • Presenting at requested conference with Faculty Mentor approval
    • If not presenting, must provide written recommendation letter from Faculty Mentor

Student travel overview:

Student awarded travel will be notified and travel arrangements will begin once a signed SOAR Travel Contract has been submitted to the SOAR Director. Student must also attend a mandatory Travel Orientation prior to departure date. Once travel is completed, students are required to submit receipts for all expenses related to the approved travel no later than 3 business days after return from travel. Students will not be reimbursed for any travel expenses until all post-conference requirements are completed. Students have 30 days after return from travel to submit requirements to the SOAR Director.

Conference Funding Limitations

  • SOAR Travel funding is contingent on the availability of funds.
  • Cohort members may not attend the same conference more than once.
  • Cohort members may be approved for a maximum of 1 travel award for each calendar year.
    • SURE Participants may be approved for a maximum of 1 additional travel award per calendar year.
